Retroactive Medical Withdrawal

Apply for a retroactive medical withdrawal when you were unable to successfully complete and medically withdraw from a previous semester because of a physical and/or psychological illness. A retroactive medical withdrawal is from all courses and will result in 0 credit hours for that semester. Students can apply for a retroactive medical withdrawal up to two years after the semester in question. After two years, student requests will require additional approval from the Provost’s Office.

To apply for a retroactive medical withdrawal, complete the following steps:

2: Connect with the Medical Withdrawal Coordinator at medwithdraw@auburn.edu or (334)-844-1305.

Once the Medical Withdrawal Coordinator receives your application form, we will reach out to you to set up a meeting, which can happen in person or over the phone to review your application.

3: Submit a personal statement to Auburn Cares explaining the circumstances that led to the retroactive medical withdrawal request.

4: Ask your licensed healthcare provider to submit current medical documentation to Auburn Cares supporting your decision to retroactively medically withdraw from the university. All medical documentation must follow our Medical Documentation Guidelines and can be mailed, faxed, or scanned via email to Auburn Cares:

Once these steps have been completed, the Retroactive Withdrawal Committee will review your application. This committee meets monthly. Once the committee has made a decision, Auburn Cares will contact you to let you know the status of your application.

If you have any questions about this process, email the Medical Withdrawal Coordinator at medwithdraw@auburn.edu or call the Auburn Cares office (334)-844-1305.
